Trevor bags two more bucks in Cambridge

After returning from Nebraska Trevor was excited to get in the woods for some hot Maryland rut action. On Nov. 18th, he was able to fill his bow bonus buck tag with a nice mature eight pointer from cambridge. It even had a previous broadhead injury form earlier this season! After that he was able to take his first whitetail ever with a rifle, a dandy old eight point buck at 250 yds! He aged out to be five and a half and will look great on the wall!

Brian puts the smackdown on monster eights again!

Big bucks sightings this year in charles county have seemed slower than usual. For Brian, however the bucks were still running great in his honey hole. After putting the smack on an awesome eight in early november he followed it up with a tremendous monster a week later! This eight pointer was the largest any of us have ever killed and unofficially scored 150 inches pope and young! He had seen it the day he shot the first eight pointer but it was out of range. Having already filled his two doe tags he was eligible for his bonus buck and when he chased a doe passed him at ten yards he crushed him!

Nebraska Trip a Success!

Evan and Trevor ventured across half the US to try to bag some big whitetails in the sleeper state of Nebraska. A family friend in Nebraska allowed them to hunt her property in southeastern Nebraska. After a long 21 hour drive west they had a great week hunting the creek and river bottoms of Jefferson County. Of course they wanted to hit it during the rut and with bows. After 6 solid days of hunting, they bagged two bucks, one doe, a coyote, and two shed antlers! They saw some awesome bucks and were able to bag a bruiser, can't wait until next year!

Well after a long two year wait the sika stag is finally all done. The mount was done by southern maryland taxidermy and I made the base myself. I'm glad I tackled the project myself, it saved me lots of money and allowed me to create exactly what I wanted. The 2011 sika slam was also a success, with us taking two sika spikeys and a sika hind.

I was sitting watching a spike buck rub on a sapling when I heard a commotion, when I looked up past the spike I saw another tree that was much bigger shaking I looked with my binos and saw that this was a shooter. He charged in running the spike off and put him self 4yds from my tree. Game over...

Frankie's Monster

Frankie has never been the type that was scared to try something. I have hunted with him many times, sometimes I find myself thinking what is he doing, but it seems more and more his tactics are paying off. Take a look at what being aggressive in the tree did for him this time,he called this deer out of a big block of woods and got him within rang for the kill. Good work!!

Well the first buck of the season has fallen. This deer showed up on trail camera on one of the suburban properties Trevor hunts in Montgomery County. After a slow morning hunt on Saturday morning, this buck along with a small four pointer got up from where they were bedded close to Trevor's stand and began to work away. After Jesse had mentioned seeing bucks sparring the day before in Charles County, Trevor pulled out the rattling bag and decided to try mimicing some sparring. Sure enough it peaked both the bucks' curiosty. After quickly turning around, they came by at twenty yards; presenting Trevor with a great broadside shot. The buck went down quickly, Trevor's first deer for the season! Now he'll have to fill those doe tags quickly to open up another buck tag.

Trevor's first Snakehead bowkill!

The 1st Annual Potomac Snakehead Tournament went off without a hitch! We will soon have some awesome pictures and results up from it. On Saturday evening, after the tourney, Jesse and Chris were nice enough to take Trevor out to try to get his first snakehead with a bow! The tourney anglers must have done a good job because they were few and far in between. After some practice shots we took off along a hydrilla edge, and after cruising for a little while Chris pointed to a monstrous snakehead sitting atop the hydrilla fairly close to the boat. With a quick, lucky shot, Trevor managed to put the smackdown on the brute that measured a full 35 inches! It was his first snakehead with a bow! The rest of the evening proved slow but that monster made the trip worth it!

We launched on a strong incoming tide that filled the hydrilla beds and marsh grass with murky water. Jesse Swann built an awesome boat platform and lighting system that was powered by an onboard generator. He put us on the fish in no time.

Austin Murphy started things off by arrowing a nice fish off the front of the boat. Brian Rawlings put some nice shots on several fish and then Jesse stepped up and stuck a few. We arrowed a dozen fish in just a few hours. It was an awesome night on the water. Of course we can’t wait to cook up these tasty fish as soon as possible.

Frog Gigging!

The bull frogs have been bellowing on the shore, and the thought of some fresh fried legs sounded great. In Maryland, you technically can't 'gig' a frog (can't pierce the skin) so with a little ingenuinty we attached some #1 footholds to poles so we could still catch some of those tasty buggers. With cameras rolling we hit the ponds hard and captured about 35 over two nights. It was a blast!

Bow Fishing for SNAKE HEAD

We have been hearing a lot of talk about this fish time to see what its all about.
Doug Hancock, Clayton Hancock and Jesse Swann head out in pursuit of the Snake Head.
It only took the team a few hours to transform the boat into a killing machine. With the addition of a few lights and shooting platform, as you can see it worked great. We just need to work on our shooting, they are a bit hard to hit!!

Jesse could only hunt for about two hours before work, so he grabbed his bow and decoys and headed for the woods. He knew that to make a short hunt he would need to get close to the birds on the roost. The birds hit the ground at 15yds. If he had a gun they would have been dead, but that's not the case. The birds worked off to the right, he drew back -busted!!!
Within 15 minutes the birds were out on the field, time for a stalk. Jesse ran 600yds and got in front of the bird, got in a brush pile and waited for the ambush. The birds came by at 10yds, he took the shoot, the Tom got up and flew out into a near by marsh, not good!! Ninja to the rescue! He was able to catch the wounded tom and hold him for Jesse. A great end to a 3 hour hunt. Lucky for Jesse his boss is such a nice guy about being late to work.

Austin's Turkey Bow Kill

The morning started out with lots of excitement. I had birds shock gobbling very close to my set up before sunrise so I knew that I was on the "X." Just after sunrise the resident boss gobbler strutted in with five hens. He was huge and he guarded the spot for over an hour. I came to full draw on him a couple of times but he never quite presented a good enough shot. After he left the area, several hens and jakes worked their way within bow range.

At 10:00 a.m. I pulled up the binos and saw a nice tom at 70 yards but he was moving away from me. I hit the slate call and then yelped softly with my diaphragm call. He came running right in but hung up in some thick stuff just out of range. Things really heated up when he began to strut and fight with two other toms nearby.

At around 10:30 a.m. he worked himself up into quite a frenzy and decided to walk into the field to go after a live hen. He gave me a broadside shot at 24 yards. I drew my bow and touched off a shot. My arrow passed through him like butter and he folded in a few seconds.

This hunt was all about redemption for me. I made a few mistakes on a previous hunt with Jesse Swann and I was pretty down about it. Jesse convinced me to stay focused and to keep my head in the game. I definitely appreciate all of his help and encouragement!

Shed Antlers!

It was another busy year after trapping season searching for sheds. As usual we like to do some post season scouting and see which bucks survived and what we may have to look forward to last year. Trevor has been working with his dog Belle for the last couple years on finding this exclusive ivory of the woods. He pushed hard and walked many miles, many days to beat his previous record set last year of 31. This year he found a total of 34, so far. Hopefully we'll see some of these deer next year in the woods!

Brian's Tom 2011

After chasing the gobblers hard with the Goldey twins for a couple weeks, Brian was getting discouraged by close calls and no pulled triggers. After roosting some birds on Friday evening he deciding to head out on Saturday May 14th, with gun in hand, to try to bag one of the birds that had been so frustrating. Trevor was behind the camera and the plan came together perfectly as a tom in full strut came in right off the roost with two hens. He pulled the trigger at 45 yards and the bird dropped, sealing the deal at about 6:20 in the morning! It was an awesome hunt!

I hit the season hard this year with a trip to Virginia to kick off the turkey season a week early. I had some great hunts down there but wasn't able to bag a bird. Luckily, during a early morning hunt before work during opening week I was able to put the sneak on this old Tom on the eastern shore. He was delicious in the deep-fryer for Easter!

We have been on the birds all season, but haven't been able to close the deal... until today. This year was a tough year for me since I passed on a few decent bucks and I was starting to second guess my choices. With only a few days left in the season I decided to hunt a funnel on the north side of an ag field since the wind was blowing out of the northwest. Jesse Swann was hunting the south side of the same field that evening. The temperature plummeted down to single digits and the deer started moving well. They seemed a bit less stressed since gun season had ended several weeks ago.

The buck stepped out into a clearing with plenty of light left. He gave me a 40-yard broadside shot so I drew back and launched an arrow down range. It was a long shot for me and I couldn't really tell if I had made a good hit because he ran a few yards just out of my line of sight. Jesse was watching my shot through his binos from 90 yards away so he could clearly see me draw and shoot. I had no idea that the buck only made it about 40 yards and collapsed in a ravine.

After the shot I heard Jesse whistle from across the field. I looked up and saw him jumping up and down and fist pumping the sky. I knew then that the buck was down. Of course we had a tough time dragging him out but it was an awesome hunt and I definitely appreciated all of Jesse's help and encouragement that evening. It was a great way to end an awesome bow hunting season!

Late season sika slam!

The whackfactor boys hit the marsh hard for late muzzleloader and rifle season this year. We had a very successful time with Trevor bagging a spike stag and Jesse killing two hinds during late muzz. They were some of the largest hinds we have ever seen and we got some awesome footage, although the weather was frigid! During late rifle Brian put the smack down on two nice hinds. A good friend of Trevor's, Evan, was also on board for late rifle and harvested an awesome stag.

Well if you have ever tried filming hunt you will find out that it's not easy, not at all, but as soon as you leave the camera at home the deer come out of the wood work. We have been hunting hard all through the rut trying to get some kills on film its been slow. The first time I go out with no camera man it happens. A big 10pt comes out trailing a doe and I put him down would have been great film! That's how it goes still a great hunt, the cool thing about it was I was hunting in the swamp and the water was very high so I was able to float him out.

Brents best bow kill

Other than one distant encounter early in bow season; and a few trail cam pictures, this buck that i had nicknamed "The one eyed monster" had been a virtual ghost. He had earned that name due to the fact that only his left eye would glow on all night time pictures. Well, needless to say that he was placed at the top of my hit list and i was determined to dedicate my entire season to his pursuit.
However as luck would have it, Ole One Eye cruised by my stand on his way to check some does feeding in a wheat field. It was only November 5th, and my sixth hunt on the farm and my buck was at 20yds broadside. I made a great shot and watched him fall at about 75 yards. I'm very proud and very fortunate to have targeted a specific deer and got it done so early in the season.

Early Muzz

Chris and Jesse took off work on Friday and didn't waste any time putting a deer on the ground. Deer movement was slow at first light but around 7:55am Chris shook the tree signaling my attention to the left. When I looked there was a doe crossing a creek,following her was a nice buck. Chris took the shot. He then looked up at Jesse telling him that the deer had a nice drop tine.

The Swann boys are on a roll,Jesse was up next. He had been thinking about his encounter with the big 8 earlier this year.The wind was just right for the tree he wanted to hunt so they went in after the buck. At 5:30pm deer movement began and things were beginning to look good. Around 6:00 Jesse spotted some smaller bucks feeding his way. Then Jesse saw that something was chasing a 16in. 8pt- it was the deer he was after! They fed within 50yds for a perfect broad side shot. The deer went 40yds and was down.

Opening Day Wood Duck Hunting in Southern Maryland

Saturday was the start of duck season in Maryland and this day was very special since it was Zayna's first hunt.

We set up on the main run of Lee Gootee's marsh. The excitement cranked up before legal light as we watched a few teal flying at mach-1 over the marsh grass. At sunrise, the crack of my Benelli echoed across the marsh and a drake wood duck folded near the decoys. Bella, a seasoned yellow lab veteran, showed little Zayna how to mark a bird and retrieve it like an old pro.

Just a minute later a pair of wood ducks dipped in over the tree line and Lee graciously let me shoot my limit. I dropped both wood ducks and Zayna launched into the run to pick up the lead bird. She returned with a special drake wood duck. It was a banded duck!!! ...what are the chances of retrieving a banded duck on a first hunt?

Zayna's first duck was my first banded wood duck. We registered the band with the USGS and found out that the bird was banded in Pennsylvania and was over three years old. This woody must have made a wrong turn into Whackfactor country...which is never a good idea :)

A special thanks goes out to Lee, Jimbo, Bella, Ottie, and of course Zayna. It was an awesome opening day with good friends and great gun dogs. Water Hole Buck

Saturday September 25th, it's hot! The WFO boys have been putting the time into the woods, but it's very hard to get motivated when it is 95 degrees outside. Deer movement has been minimal during daylight hours. We haven't had rain for 3 weeks, so we knew the deer would be coming to the water hole.

We walked in, spooking 10 deer in the moonlight... bummer. I still had high hopes of seeing deer coming to drink from the water hole. At day break we had a fawn come in for a drink, encouraging us to stick out the heat. At 7:15 a.m., cameraman Doug shook the tree, signaling my attention towards the thicket to our right. I pulled up the binoculars to see the tall 8 pointer that I have been trying to get an arrow into for the last 2 years. My attention quickly went to the 12 pointer that was leading the way to the water hole. He stopped at 20 yards for a perfect broadside shot, and I let it fly.

The A Team Gets It Done

The 2010 hunting season has started off great. Doug Hancock drew the first blood with camera man Frankie Burch filming over his shoulder, making an awesome hunt to kickoff bow season. We were setup under a white oak that was raining acorns. The bucks literally came running in. It was clear which buck was in charge, as he was pushing the other smaller bucks around. Doug made a great shot and he only went 80 yards.

Frankie was up to bat next and he wasn't wasting any time getting it done. Great job boys!

Labor Day Bonanza

It is really nice when a plan comes together and today was that day. Whackfactor's Trevor Michaels, Jesse Swann, and their retrievers headed to Newburg, MD to hunt Resident Geese. The day started off great with Woodducks flying around and Turkeys gobbling. After things settled down at about 6:45 we heard the first honk of a goose. As we looked to our left, a small group of about 15 geese were clipping the treetops with wings set headed in our direction. It made for a fun morning!

2010 Bear Hunt

Our bags are packed and our bows are in the truck. We headed North to Quebec for our second annual bear hunt. The WFO team had high hopes to score on some good bears and we have the film to prove it. The week started off great,we were greeted with cool clean air, and few bugs. We drew straws to see who would be hunting what stand. On the first night bears were on the move Jesse,Trevor, and Doug had encounters, but no blood was drawn. Jesse had a shot but decided to pass,the bear was a bit small to shoot on the first night.Day two was very slow with few sightings.Day three it was time to draw blood everyone in camp was ready to let the arrows fly.Jesse drew first and put the Whackfactor on this nice bear. He is small but not bad for his first bear.

Jesse- "It was sweet. I drove that arrow through him and he didn't go 5 feet."

Brian was able to get the job done an this awesome 350lb monster on day four.

Brian- "It was crazy the bear came in at 8:30 and walked under my stand rubbing his side on the ladder as he went by."

Brent had hunted hard all week and had yet to see anything. On day six Brian decided that he would give Brent some company and hoped to bring him some luck. Well just ask anyone and they will tell you that Brian is full of luck. Brent and Brian climbed into the stand at 4:30 at 5:30 they had killed a great bear,the film was sweet.

Robert Fey's Windy Morning Gobbler

As Saturday morning, May 8th, rolled around, the wind was clipping through the farm but the gobblers were still sounding off on the roost. It took a while to get them in but Robert put the nasty on 'em and they simply couldn't resist! After a very busy spring with minimal hunting time, Robert was pumped to be able to take a gobbler on one of his few days out.

Youth day in Charles County

The 2010 youth day started off very slow for hunter Adam Hancock, accompanied by caller Trevor Michaels, and camera man Jesse Swann. It was a cool and windy morning, but we had high hopes.Our first set up was pretty dead, not even hearing a bird on the roost makes it tough for a kid to stay focused. We packed up our gear and moved to a new spot, we wanted to try to locate a bird and that's what we did, lots of them. Within an hour we had a bird on the ground! Great job Adam.

However the day did not start out slow for Hunter and Holden, accompanied by their father Sonny Goldie, and camera man Brian Rawlings. Brian had done his homework and knew where the birds would be roosting. He set up two ground blinds the day before the hunt in a small field that the birds were using. The plan came together great, the birds came off the roost and into the setup. Sonny put the old one-two-three count on them, and then both of the boys put the Whackfactor on a gobbler. This will be one of those hunts that wont be forgotten,especially since dad is going to mount the birds.

Really Big deer stands

These deer stands may look like a bit much but on a rainy day everyone will want to be in one. They are also great for first time hunters and kids.

After adding some brush and a bit of paint these stands will be ready for the hunt.

Shed hunting with dogs

This can be a great way to find deer antlers and is also very rewarding for a dog owner.First, you must establish a command, such as "find the horn" or "fetch the antler". After you have established a command, you must show the dog what it is looking for. You can do this by playing fetch with an old horn. When you are playing fetch, you want to make sure your scent does not get on the horn. We used latex gloves. Next, hide the antlers throughout the woods and fields, leaving them for a few days. After a few days, go back with your dog and let him find them. Once you are in the general area, use the command that was established earlier. If the dog finds the sheds, give them alot of praise and you will soon be on the right track.

Late Season Long Bow Whackfactor!

Brian borrowed a long bow from his man love at SMECO, Rock, and has been practicing after work hoping to get comfortable enough to take it in the woods.... Brent and he took to the woods after a rabbit hunt to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday from work, and got to put his new skills to work!

With Brent behind the camera, Brian put the long bow whackfactor on a little doe quartering away at 15 yards, and watched her fall 40 yards away, with the Whackfactor Outdoors camera rolling! Good job Barefoot!

West River Duck Whack'n

The Whackfactor Outdoors team was very fortunate to be invited on an amazing river duck hunt at the mouth of the West River out of Shady Side, Maryland today with Ralph Yates. We can't thank Ralph enough for the hunt of a lifetime!

While Ralph cooked up a varying assortment of gourmet foods, like shrimp, grouper fillets flown in from South America the day before, crab cakes, oysters etc... The Whackfactor crew shot up a nice mixed bag of Ruddy ducks, Buffleheads, Bluebills, and Canvasbacks! We had a crazy good time and captured it all on film!

Whackfactor Fur Trapping 2010

Trevor and Robert took some much needed vacation time from work to do some fur trapping on the Eastern shore of Virginia. They caught a nice mixed bag of gray fox, red fox raccoon and otter. The fur market is in the toilet, so they might not break even on gas money spent running the trapline, but the good times and laughs earned were priceless! Already looking forward to next year!

Maryland has a late two day season, January 8th and 9th to allow further recreational opportunities for sportsmen, and further manage the states booming deer herds. The Whackfactor Outdoors team took full advantage of this extended season to manage the anterless deer populations on some of our agricultural properties. The deer have really been pounding the winter wheat fields and our food plots. Jeremy and Jesse set up on one of our clover and turnip food plots, and put the Whackfactor on a fat late season doe to fill the freezer! Good job Stinky!

Whackfactor Outdoors Late Muzzleloader Sika Slam 2009

The Whackfactor Outdoors team headed Accross the Chesapeake Bay for our annual late muzzleloader hunt on Maryland's Eastern Shore. We hunted public land, as we generally do. The weather was horrible but we made the best of it. Check out the 1/2 inch of ice on us and our gear!
Jesse:We hunted the first morning but had a tough time catching up with the wiley sika deer, With nosika sightings the first morning, we did a little scouting in some new areas and found some good sign. My camera man, Jeremy, and I set up for our evening hunt. We were overlooking a frag patch that was bordered by salt hay. In the past we had noticed that the deer were grazing on salt hay. We had high hopes for this spot, and soon spotted a nice 6 point stag about a hundred yards out in the marsh. I was able to get a good angle for the shot and dropped the stag in his tracks, making for an easy recovery. We got him loaded up in the boat and made the icy trip in to the boat ramp!

Feeding Schuylkill Mountain's Hungry Jasons!

Our good buddy Jason is making his annual pilgrimage to Southern Maryland this weekend to fill his freezer! Despite recommendations of a vasectomy, Jason runs the Schuylkill Mountain child factory, and has more mouths to feed than a soup kitchen! Every year, the Whackfactor team represents and does some serious population management on some of our agricultural properties, to fill our freezers. Jason usually takes home 10 to 15 deer each year, and feeds the hungry of Schuylkill Mountain, and the Whackfactor team is glad to help! It looks like they will eat well this year! Good Job boys!

With cold weather finally setting in, the Whackfactor team has shifted gears somewhat after months dedicated to deer hunting. This time of year, you might find us chasing beagles after rabbits, sika deer hunting in the frozen marshes of the Eastern Shore, or huddled around a camp stove frying bacon in a goose blind! Brian, Jesse, Chris and Doug, along with some other friends and family were able to sneak away this morning and put the whackfactor on a nice limit of geese! Merry Christmas everybody!

Austin "Money" Murphy got the chance to hunt an elite river blind in Anne Arundel County's West river with some buddies and had an action packed hunt. Look for more pictures and video footage to come from the Whackfactor Outdoors duck shoot in the West River in January!

White Christmas Deer Whack'n!

The Whackfactor boys have changed gears and started to think about the freezers and we intend on filling them! .

Jesse and his brother Mike decided to take advantage of the brown deer in white woods, and hit the stand with the Whackfactor Outdoors camera rolling. While most people are hunting with muzzleloaders, Jesse decided to get up close and personal and use his bow. The boys got some great footage of Jesse putting the Whackfacgtor on a nice freezer filler with the bow in the snow!

Dougie got off work at 4:00 and hauled tail to the woods! With darkness coming on, he decided to still hunt a little, and snuck up on two does feeding in a honey suckle thicket and put her down with a great muzzleloader shot! Good job Doug!

Maryland's Shotgun Opener!

Whackfactor Outdoors has always looked at the opening day of Maryland's shotgun season as a national holiday!

This awesome 15 pointer had been seen on several previous occasions and it looks like someone had a close call with him because he had a razor cut across his back. It may have been the 28th of November, but this guy was still running a doe making for an awesome hunt. Brian did a great job putting the Whackfactor on this awesome buck, and Brent got it done with the camera! Awesome job guys!

Chris, unfortunately had to hunt off camera, but was also able to take this great deer. Awesome buck, Dude!

Youth Day

Chris has been watching a pretty 11 pointer on his trail cam in Southern Maryland since September, and felt like November 14th's Junior Hunt Day was the perfect time to go after him. He took his 16-year-old brother-in-law, Brandon, in his last year to hunt youth day. The buck had previously been exclusively nocturnal, but showed himself to Brandon in the peak of the rut. Brandon scored big this time, and put the Whackfactor on an awesome, awesome buck! Congratulations Brandon on a great buck!

We also spent the Junior Deer Hunt Day, with Whackfactor Outdoors partner, Sonny Goldey, owner of Southern Maryland Taxidermy, and his two sons Hunter and Holden. It is their first year hunting, and those boys couldn't wait to get into the deer woods! We are very thankful for being able to share this hunt with Sonny and the boys; it was an awesome hunt that we will never forget! A must-see hunt full of fun and laughs!

Congratulations to Chris and Sarah Swann! Please join the Whackfactor Outdoors family in celebrating the birth of our first child! Olive Caroline Swann was born today at Civista in La Plata. She weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces and was 20 inches long. Baby and mom are doing great!

Chris had bigger fish to fry, so Uncle Jesse wound up hunting solo, without his camera man. As any of you who have filmed hunts know, you always have the best hunts when the camera is miles away! Jesse hunted an area that hadn't even been scouted all year, and put the Whackfactor on this awesome 11 pointer! Congrats on a great deer Jesse!

All bow hunters love it when November gets here! Whackfactor Outdoors loves to be in the woods with our cameras rolling and our arrows flying during the rut! We have really been seeing some nice deer, been passing up a lot of next year's deer, and been seeing some real monsters on our trail cameras!

Brent's Early Muzzleloader Two-for-One Special!

Maryland's three-day early muzzeloader season is a great time to be in the woods and capitalize on the last feeding rush before the rut sets in! Brian and Brent hunted this morning on an oak flat in search of a nice 8pt that they had a close call with in early bow season. Today the odds were a little more in our favor—the wind was just right, and we're no longer limited to a 30yd shot! As luck would have he came by at about 20yds, making an easy shot. After stirring up the woods at first light, they decided to take out a doe to put some meat in the freezer!

Johnny Hancock- Little Whackfactor!

Brent: "I had made up my mind that this year that I would try to get my younger brother Johnny on a deer, and that is what I did. We were set up overlooking a sweet potato patch that was getting hammered by some does. It wasn’t long at all before a small doe came out and Johnny took care of the rest."

Look to see a lot from this young man in the future! He's turning into quite the natural hunter, with the drive, determination, and the god-given skills and ability to get it done in any hunting situation! Good Job buddy!

Trevor's Big Stag

At the tail end of the Sika Slam weekend, most of us decided to head on home to work on the honey-do lists, but a few of the Whackfactor Outdoors boys would rather get an ear full and stayed to hunt one more day! On Columbus Day, Jesse, Doug, Jeremy, and Trevor headed out into the marsh for one last hunt, where Trevor and Jeremy would get it done in a very big way!

Trevor's first sika deer ever was a giant stag, with a bow on film on public land! Trevor: "We had not seen a deer all morning, then like a ghost he came out of the frag. I thought to myself, that it looked like a nice deer from 300 yards. I truly understood what a trophy he was when the boys and I found him only 80 yards from the tree..."

Every year, the Whackfactor Outdoors crew loads up and makes the trip from Southern Maryland, across the Chesapeake to the Eastern Shore. This year we had great weather and were able to find some great signs on the public land where we traditionally hunt. We also found some great new spots in the abundant state and federal property. We had some major equipment malfunctions and operator errors, and wound up taking 4 sika deer with bows on public land by the last day of the weekend, without any usable footage. Doug, Frankie, Jeremy, and Austin all scored on nice deer. Jeremy had an incredible self-filmed hunt with three stags on one hind at close quarters, but couldn't seal the deal and run the camera at the same time...

It's Time

We have been seeing some great bucks, but are having trouble getting close as the swirling winds are often an issue. Brian and I finally got a break when the winds shifted to the North West. We setup close to a creek so the deer could not get down wind of us. The plan worked, and Brian put the Whackfactor on a great buck.

Thinning the Herd

Whackfactor Outdoors goes to great lengths to manage the deer herds on our properties. To keep our deer healthy, and our farmers happy, we take a lot of does. It really helps to take the edge off after a long summer of shooting targets and puts meat in our freezers!

Frankie's Big 11-Pointer

Frankie had been watching this beautiful 11 pointer on his trail cameras all summer, and had him figured out to a T! Frankie put the Whackfactor on him the first time in that piece of woods, and he looks even prettier in hand than he did on camera! Congrats on a great buck Frankie!

Whackfactor Outdoors has started using trail cameras a lot more for scouting. It really helps us figure out what deer are using our properties, and where they are likely to be. There's nothing more motivating, nothing that get's us out of bed on that cold rainy morning like a picture of a big buck walking by one of our stands!
